Consists of safety specialists
who provide CMHA residents and staff with the
safest possible living and working environment.
Provides training, oversees elimination of
safety hazards, maintenance of security systems,
and the development and implementation of disaster
plans.
Sworn Peace Officers. Respond
to reported violations of laws and ordinances
on CMHA property including drug violations,
warrants, felonies, disturbances, misdemeanors.
Conduct preliminary investigations of
crimes, accidents, and civil disturbances
on CMHA property. May administer
first aid, locate, question and detain
witnesses; pursue, apprehend, arrest,
interrogate, and transport suspects.
Testify and present evidence in court.
Provide mobile patrol of CMHA estates/
administrative offices. Respond
to and handles residents calls for service
and emergencies and other on-site problems.
Consists
of three (3) separate teams. Each team
has a handler and a dog. Each of the
dogs has been specially trained to locate
cocaine, crack, meth, ice, marijuana,
heroin and hash. Assist in building searches
including hi-rise or search warrant assists.

Non-sworn Peace Officers. Monitor
activity at CMHA high-rise buildings,
their immediate vicinity, or other designated
areas in order to maintain resident and
building security, prevent crime or disturbance
of the peace. Report any suspicious
criminal activity for a police response
or instructions to take necessary action. May
arrest misdemeanor offenders and detain
suspects for felony offenses committed in
their presence only on CMHA
property. May be armed or unarmed.
Identifies
and apprehends gang members suspected
of committing crimes on CMHA properties.
Participates in preventive crime/gang
awareness programs, provides social service
referrals such as in-home counseling
and juvenile court, and files juvenile
complaints. Participates in a city-wide
task force with CPD to address quality
of life issues in the local community.
Responsible
for entry and security during the execution
of high-risk search warrants obtained
by other CMHAPD Units. Participates in
special assignments, stings, inter-agency
joint operations and street sweeps. Targets
high crime areas.
Responsible
for the investigation of drug complaints,
quality of life issues effecting properties
and residents, control of confidential
informants, surveillance, obtaining and
executing search warrants, and filing
of all felony drug charges.
Primary
function is to work directly with CMHA
residents to monitor, prevent, and address
any potential problems on CMHA properties. The
Unit is responsible for providing bicycle
and foot patrols, resident safety initiatives,
as well as, the following PAL programs:

POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE (PAL)
Organizes and supports sports, recreational,
learning and cultural activities for
CMHA youth. Prevents crime by providing
youth with alternative choices. Various
educational programs offered include:

- Bicycle Rodeo – Accident Prevention
- Safety Town – Accident Prevention
- Gang Resistance Education & Training
- Hooked on Fishing

Responsible for handling
non-criminal investigations involving
complaints against CMHA officers, Motor
Vehicle Accidents, Use of Force Incidents,
officer injuries, violations of CMHA
policy, public records requests, preparation
for disciplinary charges, hearings and
arbitrations.
Coordinate all police
response calls.
Responsible for handling felony criminal investigations
involving CMHA officers, HUD investigations,
Fraud and white collar criminal investigations.
